Employment of foreigners in Poland: What is their accommodation like?

Employment of foreigners in Poland: What is their accommodation like?

In recent years, Poland has become an attractive place to work for many foreigners. How do those who take jobs in our country deal with the issue of housing? The first study on the housing situation of immigrants working in Poland, conducted by EWL Group, RentLito and Eastern European Studies at Warsaw University, sheds new light on the issue.

The role of employers and employment agencies in providing housing

According to the results of the survey, as many as 47% of immigrants employed in Poland received housing through the help of an employer or employment agency. This is an important fact that underscores the role of employers in the process of integrating foreigners. Andrzej Korkus, president of EWL Group, notes that in the face of a growing labor shortage in Poland, employers are increasingly involved in providing adequate housing for their employees. This is not only a matter of competitiveness in the labor market, but also a key element of immigrant integration.

"Providing adequate housing for foreigners not only affects their living comfort, but is also a key factor in determining their choice of work and loyalty to their employer." - Andrzej Korkus, president of EWL Group

Location preferences vs. choice of residence

The survey showed that more and more foreigners prefer housing close to their place of work. Only 23% of respondents indicated that their commute time to work exceeds 15 minutes. For 38% of employed foreigners, the trip takes less than 15 minutes, and 39% can reach work on foot in the same amount of time. This trend shows that for many immigrants, the location of housing is becoming a key factor in choosing a job.

Influence of housing conditions on labor market competitiveness

Maria Dabrowska, president of RentLito, stresses that providing adequate housing conditions is important to remain competitive in the labor market. More and more accommodation landlords need to be open to working with employees themselves, not just their employers. It is becoming increasingly important for workers to be directly involved in the choice of housing, even at the expense of some reduction in transaction security for landlords.

Summary and outlook

The survey study "Foreign worker - accommodation in Poland," conducted by EWL Group, RentLito and Eastern European Studies at the University of Warsaw, showed that the issue of accommodation is an important element for immigrants working in Poland. For employers, it is also becoming an increasingly important factor in recruiting and retaining employees.
